Safe Summer Kick Off on Get Outdoors Day

Safe Summer Kick Off on Get Outdoors Day (SSKO GO Day) partners believe in building community health, wealth, and safety. Every day, we are motivated by our connections to each other and to the natural world to do better for ourselves and for each other. We come together at Garfield Lake Park in June to celebrate community and to build community.

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have made significant modifications to the annual event to keep organizers, volunteers, participants, and neighbors safe. Now more than ever it is important to connect with and serve our community, getting everyone the resources, information, and opportunities they need to get outside safely and cope with the health, safety, economic, and other effects of the pandemic.

Although we are unable to all physically come together at the park this summer for our annual festival, SouthWest Denver Coalition, Metro Denver Nature Alliance, Denver Parks & Recreation, and our broad coalition of partners are excited to be working together again to help you enjoy a safe, healthy, and happy summer that includes loads of nearby nature!

We invite you to support and take part in a number of virtual and volunteer opportunities to Kick Off Summer and continue to celebrate community throughout the season. Thank you to our partners who have already stepped up to lead events and contribute ideas, items, and resources. Click the links to learn more and engage with YOUR community!

  • Join us online at Let’s #COoutside! Build and share content supporting a safe and enjoyable summer. Reshare this content to your social media channels and engage with us through our collaborators at SouthWest Denver Coalition and the Westwood Family Nature Club
  • Participate in the Online Community Resource Fair! Record and share brief clips (2 minutes or less) covering your organization’s message and resources available to the community that we can share online. Best practices for making your own video from the Nature Narratives project are available here
  • Build a Safe Summer Kick Off Resource Guide! We are curating a resource and activities guide similar to the existing SWDC COVID-19 Resource Guide. Upload PDF flyers and links* to more information so we can provide a comprehensive list of resources and activities for families, compiled and shared by community organizations that they trust.
  • Contribute to Community Care Packages! Donate items and share information* related to the SW Denver community’s health, education, census, safety, outdoor recreation, and other interests and needs represented in our partnership. Volunteer to deliver care packages!

This is our start and we are SO ENCOURAGED by the commitment and creativity of our partners. We are ENERGIZED to build and share these resources supporting a safe and enjoyable summer. Keep the good ideas coming, and we will do our best to make the most of this moment!
